Log College
The Log College at Alamance is an educational initiative of Alamance Presbyterian Church. We provide education and training programs for youth and adults in the Southeast Guilford Community and beyond.
The Log College name is a reference to the work of our founding pastor, Reverend David Caldwell. Caldwell is a well-known figure in the history of our community. In addition to pastoring the Alamance and Buffalo Presbyterian Churches, Caldwell was a farmer, a soldier, a self-taught physician, and a statesman. Recognizing the need for quality education in Guilford County, an area that was once the Western frontier, David Caldwell and his wife Rachel established a Log College to educate the community. The Log College would produce dozens of pastors, lawyers, educators, and even governors. Gov. John Motley Morehead was a graduate.
Caldwell's Log College was about recognizing the gaps and filling the needs. It is in that very spirit that Alamance has revived his model. We are focused on physical, mental, spiritual, fiscal, and vocational health, as well as leadership development. In a time in our history when leadership, civility, service, empathy, and character development are at a premium, the Log College at Alamance hopes to provide the means and opportunity to grow in these areas, particularly for younger generations.
Six of our churches' Senior High youth completed our inaugural program on leadership development in the fall of 2025. We plan to offer that program again in 2026, as well as several offerings for both youth and adults throughout the year.
Check back later this year for our next Log College courses.
